Now standing upright against the south wall of the church tower, a
slab of Castle Espie limestone, features
the Hamilton coat of arms [Three cinque-foils pierced, in chief a heart,
and charged with a crescent. Crest :- Knight's plumed helmet
surmounted by a bird's head bearing a heart, and with the motto 'Fortis
non ferox' (strength, not ferocity).
Although it bears neither name nor date it
is believed to be to the memory of Archibald Hamilton, a dissenting
minister of Bangor who died on the 29th June 1695, aged 76.
It has an
inscription in Latin :- "Hi(c
abavis), atavis, et avo, zic patre creatus
Presbyteris, sanctis, presbyter ipse lacet
Annos si spectes luvenum (fl)os excidit, at si
Aut studia, aut (mor)es, transit (ille) senex."

from great-great grand-sires, great-great-great grand-sires.

Erected to the memory of George Hannay, late of Bangor, who departed
this life on the 12th of August 1821 aged 57 years. "A man
of very superior understanding, an umbi( )ding [sic] integrity of
principle and a sincere and benevolent heart. He was eminently
useful as a member of society and was one of the first who introduced
the manufacture of cotton, in allits branches, into the North of
Ireland." Here lie also his daughter Eliza who died on the 12th of
January 1811 aged 21 years. And Catharine STRICKLAND his wife, who
died on the 6th January 1828 aged 7(1) years. Also their son
Alexander, who died in the 40th year of his age, on the 30th October
1832.

Alexander who died 25th March 1909 aged 48, James who died 16th May 1910
